Marine Weather StatementIssued 9:34 AM AST 18 January 2018 A low pressure system currently east of Cape Hatteras will gradually
intensify today and track south of the marine district tonight and
Friday. Increasing northeasterly winds ahead of this system will
reach gale force over southwestern waters this evening and spread
eastward across southern waters throughout Friday.
There remains some uncertainty on how close this low pressure system
will track near the southernmost waters. Should this low pressure
system track further northward than is currently expected, stronger
gales or storm force northeasterlies may develop over Georges Bank
and West Scotian Slope later this evening and overnight. Environment
and climate change Canada will continue to monitor the situation and
issue updates as new information becomes available.
Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for
Georges Bank, West Scotian Slope, East Scotian Slope and Laurentian
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Gulf-Magdalen and Anticosti.
